TOLOS: THE NOBLE “CRU”

On the high pastures of the Maiella massif, the mother mountain of Abruzzo, you can find special pseudo dome-shaped structures made from piles of dry stones. They are rural shelters connected with sheep farming but they actually have a noble ancient origin. Examples of tholos (domed tombs) can be found in various areas of the Mediterranean: from the Mycenaean civilization to Etruscan tombs, Roman buildings, Sardinian nuraghi and the trulli of Puglia, which also belong to the same category of ancient and often sacred buildings.

This name that is so ancient, noble and ancestrally linked to the land and to man’s genius, seemed ideal for our most prestigious wine. Carefully selected Montepulciano d’Abruzzo grapes make this “cru” complex and powerful. Aged for a long time in new barriques and then in the bottle, it is elegant, well-structured and balanced, with a lingering finish. It is an excellent red wine in our line of high-end wines, which, as their name suggests, express their close bond with the land and the traditions of Abruzzo.
